New software helps distributors to deliver accurate, customized stain colours to customers while significantly saving time

Sikkens Wood Coatings, part of AkzoNobel, is thrilled to announce the launch of its innovative stain colour matching software, designed to revolutionize the way translucent coatings, such as stains, are colour matched. This cutting-edge software solution delivers accurate colour-matching for wood-based substrates, helping colour mixers save significant time spent on colour matching enabling them to offer their customers quick turnaround times.

Using a spectrophotometer, the stain colour matching software accurately reads the bare substrate (to be coated) and the target colour from a sample (chart or custom creation) to generate a customized formulation. The tool significantly aids colour mixers in their daily tasks, allowing them to quickly mix accurate shades for any wood-based substrate. During a pilot phase in 2024, users reported substantial time savings, with minimal need for manual adjustments.

The stain colour matching software seamlessly integrates in the Mix2Win Next colour mixing system from Sikkens Wood Coatings. The software can be installed on an additional standard PC and is compatible with any spectrophotometer that works with Mix2Win Next.

The roll-out will commence in 2025 and distributors in EMEA already using the Mix2Win Next colour mixing system will be able to quickly incorporate the new stain colour matching software into their workflows.

Jeroen Hoogink, Colour Marketing Manager EMEA at AkzoNobel Industrial Wood Coatings, explains:
“Precise colour matching is very important for distributors mixing the colours for their customers. As a leader in colour, we’re proud that we succeeded in creating this new software using our internal colour expertise and innovation capabilities. This latest software delivers unparalleled translucent colour precision and drives significant efficiencies. Its ease of use and compatibility with existing, readily available devices and software offer unrivalled benefits to customers striving for colour accuracy.”

The pilot exercise involved one of the brand’s loyal distributors, Wico, who worked with the Sikkens Wood Coatings team in 2024 to test and trial the new software. “Precisely mixed colour shades are an important part of our service and customer loyalty,” says Rob van Dijk, Sales Manager at Wico. He continues: “This is a practical solution with precise translucent colour matching and significant time savings.”
