AkzoNobel further expands its Sikkens Wood Coatings brand into the interior segment in Germany, Austria, Belgium, and the Netherlands

AkzoNobel is reinforcing its long-term commitment to the European market by consolidating its professional wood coatings portfolio for the distribution business under the Sikkens Wood Coatings brand. As part of this strategy, the Zweihorn brand will be phased out.  By the end of 2025, Sikkens Wood Coatings will be the sole main brand for the distribution business, covering both interior and exterior solutions.

Sikkens Wood Coatings – combining both interior and exterior products – provides a one-stop-shop solution to distributor partners and end-customers alike, with a comprehensive portfolio to satisfy the needs of professional wood finishers, furniture makers and cabinet manufacturers.

With a harmonized brand strategy throughout Europe, customers also benefit from an extensive network of technical experts to get the very best from the products available.

Sikkens has a rich history dating back to 1792. Two years ago, AkzoNobel expanded the Sikkens Wood Coatings range to include an interior portfolio, with new branding to give it a more dynamic look, in tune with its customers. Today, by transitioning the Zweihorn portfolio into Sikkens Wood Coatings, AkzoNobel is creating a future-proof European offering aligned with the evolving needs of the wood coatings market.

“Sikkens Woods Coatings has already proven itself as a high-performing, high-quality brand, offering a comprehensive portfolio of exterior and interior coatings and top-tier support to customers,” says Sabrina Garasi, Regional Product Marketing Manager EMEA.

“AkzoNobel is fully committed to its customers and distribution partners. We are pleased to offer the simplicity of one brand, which will enable us to deliver even greater value. This will also be backed by our commitment to product innovation. Customers will benefit from our extensive network of technical experts to get the very best from the products available,” Sabrina says.

As part of the initiative, AkzoNobel is also integrating key solutions from the Zweihorn portfolio – such as its interior yacht portfolio – into the Sikkens Wood Coatings range. This will allow the business to leverage its technical expertise across EMEA, fostering a robust knowledge hub to drive growth and investment in innovation and sustainable solutions to support AkzoNobel’s customers.

In the immediate term, Zweihorn products will still be available while AkzoNobel transitions to Sikkens Wood Coatings as its core brand for professional wood coaters. The commercialization of the Zweihorn brand will be discontinued by the end of 2025.
